Parkinson’s Disease and Cannabis

PD is a neurodegenerative disorder. It predominantly affects the dopamine-producing neurons in specific parts of the brain called substantia nigra. People with PD often experience Tremors, often expressed by a pill in the hand type of roll.

Now currently to date there has been no scientific proof that cannabis indeed cures or aids people with PD, however many people who have used cannabis to treat PD have found a significant difference in their quality of life.

Cannabis aids people with so much, whether it’s to sleep better, calm down seizures and tremors, or just to engage in a better state of mind, cannabis has been there to the rescue. Well many PD patients have these side effects, and have noticed a difference in how often they experience the side effects or negative effects of PD since using Cannabis.

Now that cannabis has been legalized recreationally in Canada, PD patients who were once not granted a medical license based on the lack of research available around the topic now have an outlet to obtain cannabis. Many patients as well as doctors who treat PD are hoping for more research to come out on the topic of cannabis and PD. Parkinson’s Canada continues to try to inform their patients about the potential uses of cannabis, but holds no statement that cannabis in fact helps or cures people living with PD.
